Cost

Cost of High Performance

There are many misconceptions about high performance, super insulated homes.  Chief among them is that they cost more than normal homes.  While they do often have additional costs, these extra costs come with extra benefits, such as increased comfort, lower utilities, higher IAQ and durability.

With the exception of lower utilities, these benefits are often considered intangibles, making them hard to quantify, or justify financially.  In a more general sense, these intangibles are harder to (up)sell for production builders; extra insulation is behind the walls, where you cannot see it.

It is my intention to share complete financial data for this project, including preliminary budget, estimates and actual costs.

Furthermore, I will highlight the additional costs, or upgrade costs for methods and materials beyond typical or code minimum.  For example, the upgrade cost for additional wall insulation above the Ontario building code minimums.

Preliminary budget coming soon.
